Welcome to the Department of Environmental Science at UPR Rio Piedras. Our aim is to apply an integrated, quantitative and interdisciplinary focus to the study of natural and human systems and provide the student with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully advance in an academic, industrial or government setting. Our program encompasses disciplines from both the physical sciences (e. g., biology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, geology and engineering) as well as the social sciences (e. g., public health, sociology, economics, geography, public policy, education and planning).
The Graduate Program in Environmental Science is directed towards preparing scientists to tackle environmental problems, including training in techniques for environmental research with a solid scientific basis in natural and anthropogenic processes.
The EnviroMentors undergraduate mentoring program was developed to strengthen the academic development of the participating students by exposing them to the cultural and educational resources of the institution, and enriching their academic preparation.
