UPRRP students present papers at ASLO Ocean Sciences Meeting
EnviroMentor Ileana Freytes participated in the ASLO Minority Program, Hampton University.
February 20-26, 2010
This Program supports 75 undergraduate and graduate students to present research work and be part of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) Ocean Sciences Meeting. The Program covers costs for registration, hotel, transportation and even food. You get to be part of such an important and renowned Ocean Sciences Meeting, have your work presented to other students and researchers from all over the world, and meet people with similar interests as you.
EnviroMentor Ileana Freytes went to this year’s ASLO Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon as part of the ASLOMP program. She presented a poster of her research work done in Washington state as part of the MIMSUP internship program called: “Anthopleura elegantissima: a thermoregulating anemone?â€. Not only did she share her science with students and researchers worldwide, but she also had the opportunity to attend oral and poster presentations of other students and researchers in the ocean sciences.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet students and researchers with your same interests and share ideas!†– says Ileana about her experience in the program. “I saw presentations of all subjects, from ocean acidification to coral reef ecology to key predator behavior!â€. The Ocean Sciences Meeting is a multidisciplinary convention in the ocean sciences, where different aspects of the ocean ecosystems are studied.
But the ASLOMP program is not only about the talks and posters. “We also got the chance to explore a different city and its natural resources, like going to the Columbia River Gorge and experiencing its beautiful waterfalls!â€- says Ileana. The ASLO Ocean Sciences meeting is always in different parts of the world, which gives you the opportunity to discover new and exciting places.
Just like Ileana, you could also be part of this renowned ASLO Ocean Sciences Meeting. Apply now to the ASLOMP program from Hampton University: http://www.hamptonu.edu/academics/schools/science/marine/aslo/index.htm
